We are hiring an Education Justice Fellows Program (EJFP) Assistant!

Young People for Progress (YPP) is hiring a Part-Time Program Assistant to support the Education Justice Fellows Program (EJFP).  This role provides administrative, logistical, and coordination support to ensure strong implementation of the Fellows program this spring.


Position Details

Hours: 8–10 hours per week

Duration: March 16 - May 4 (about 7 weeks)

Compensation: $18–$22 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Location: Hybrid; some in-person support required in Montgomery County

Reports to: Executive Director / Lead Organizer

Start Date: March 16th, 2026


About the Education Justice Fellows Program (EJFP)

The Education Justice Fellows Program is YPP’s high school leadership and organizing program. EJFP recruits students—particularly from highly policed school zones—and provides political education, organizing training, and campaign leadership opportunities focused on ending the school-to-prison pipeline, advancing restorative approaches in schools, addressing disproportionate discipline, and improving student wellbeing and safety. Fellows receive stipends and participate in structured political education sessions, outreach, and campaign strategy development.


Role & Responsibilities

The EJFP Program Assistant will support coordination and implementation of the program, including:

  • Tracking fellow attendance, stipends, and documentation
  • Supporting meeting logistics (agenda preparation, materials, setup, virtual platforms)
  • Maintaining program spreadsheets and participation records
  • Assisting with communication with fellows and families
  • Supporting outreach and recruitment logistics
  • Assisting with event coordination (trainings, hearings, retreats, public actions)
  • Providing light administrative and documentation support for campaign activities


This is a coordination and operations-focused role designed to strengthen program execution and consistency.


Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and details simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and basic tracking systems
  • Reliability and attention to detail
  • Commitment to racial, economic, and education justice
  • Preferred but not required:
  • Experience working with youth
  • Experience in organizing, youth development, or nonprofit program support
  • Experience with stipend tracking or compliance documentation


About Young People for Progress

Young People for Progress (YPP) is a community organizing organization building political power among young adults and youth in Montgomery County. YPP campaigns focus on ending youth criminalization, advancing restorative justice in schools, and reducing racial disparities in policing and traffic enforcement. Since its founding, YPP has won the removal of School Resource Officers from MCPS; secured restorative justice coaches in all 211 schools and full-time social workers in high schools; advanced local policy reforms addressing racial disparities in policing and traffic enforcement; and contributed to winning rent stabilization and stronger immigrant protections locally and statewide.
